The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has used President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 74th birthday to deliver a strong political message, saying this year will be his final year in office and urging him to face the challenges Nigerians are dealing with.
In a statement, the opposition party accused the president of not delivering the improvements he promised when he took office. The ADC highlighted growing problems with security, the economy and the cost of living, saying many Nigerians are still waiting for the renewed hope Tinubu once talked about.
The ADC’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, used the birthday message to call on the president to “take governance more seriously” and show clearer results on issues that affect daily life, from jobs to safety.
This sharp criticism did not go unanswered. Aides to President Tinubu quickly rejected the idea that this is his final year in office, calling the claims wrong and defending his plans and reforms. They said Nigeria’s democracy is still active and that Tinubu’s team remains focused on delivering for the country.
The exchange reflects growing political tension as Nigeria prepares for elections in 2027 and opposition parties step up pressure on the current government
