About 30 suspected political thugs have attacked and injured INEC officials in Odoakpu ward 7 in Onitsha South LGA of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the thugs stormed the Metu Memorial Secondary school Odoakpu Onitsha with four polling units, injuring some INEC officials and destroyed ballot boxes and other materials while the voting was still ongoing at the area.

The thugs also attacked polling units at Nnewi street, Margret street and Ozubulu hall at Odoakpu area.

One of the victims and INEC officer Mrs Amaka Ozoha who sustained injury was rushed to hospital for treatment while other officials were evacuated safely to the collation centre at the Onitsha South LGA.

A victim and INEC official Mr. Ndubuisi Njoku said that the thugs collected his android phone and that of his colleague Ngozi Muojekwu.

He said that the boys in their numbers stormed the polling units and started scattering and destroying ballot boxes and electoral materials which made the officials to scamper for safety.

Also confirming the incident a candidate of Labour Party for Onitsha South 2 constituency Mr. Jude Umennajiego a lawyer said he personally rushed the injured woman to hospital for treatment.

He alleged that It was APGA thugs that staged mayhem to the voters and INEC officials at his stronghold at Odoakpu when they realized that he was leading with wide margin.

“I want both INEC and security operatives to take note and stop the serials of attacks and intimidations at my strongholds. The voters were peacefully casting their votes when the thugs stormed the Metu polling units and from there moved to Ozubulu hall, Nnewi street and Margret street to continue with their actions, destroying electoral materials unchallenged. The thugs are working for APGA candidate who is unpopular but wanted to rig himself in by fire and by force. (Saturday Sun)
