President Bola Tinubu has announced new appointments across several federal boards and agencies, entrusting key roles to prominent members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among the appointees, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and APC National Chairman, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, was named Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA).

Abdullahi Ganduje, another influential APC leader, will serve as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Similarly, APC National Secretary, Bashiru Ajibola, has been appointed Chairman of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).

The appointments, effective immediately, were announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. Tinubu emphasized that these chairperson roles are non-executive, urging appointees not to interfere with the management of their respective organizations.

Notable positions filled include:

  • National Youth Service Corps (NYSC): Hillard Eta (Chairman, Cross River)
  • Nigerian Railway Corporation: Dr. Kayode Isiak Opeifa (Managing Director, Lagos)
  • National Teachers Institute: Barr. Festus Fuanter (Chairman, Plateau)
  • Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria: Nasiru Gawuna (Chairman, Kano)
  • Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA): Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar (Chairman, Kaduna)

In addition, numerous Federal Medical Centres and teaching hospitals across the country received new chairpersons, including Nze Chidi Duru (Owerri), Mary Alile Idele (Asaba), and Felix Chukwumenoye Morka (Yenagoa).

This wave of appointments underscores Tinubu’s intent to reposition key agencies for effective service delivery while leveraging the expertise of seasoned politicians and professionals.
