Social Democratic Party presidential candidate Prince Adebayo Adewole has launched a fierce attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, blaming the government for worsening roads, insecurity, electricity shortages, economic hardship and declining welfare across the country.
Adewole made the remarks while speaking about conditions he encountered during a journey from Ogbomoso, highlighting the poor state of roads and other infrastructure across the area.
He warned Nigerians against allowing Tinubu to remain in power beyond his current term, arguing that another year under the administration could bring even greater economic hardship.
“If you allow Tinubu to spend one more year, you will buy fuel at ₦5,000,” Adewole warned, adding that the economy could come to a standstill.
He also painted a grim picture of the hardship facing Nigerians, saying the country could reach a point where millionaires would struggle to feed themselves while the poorest citizens would face extreme desperation.
Adewole urged Nigerians to ensure that their families do not support Tinubu politically in the future.
Responding to a question about the developmental problems he observed on his journey from Ogbomoso, Adewole listed poor roads, a struggling economy, unreliable electricity, insecurity and inadequate welfare as major concerns.
“The roads are bad, the economy is bad, electricity is bad, security is bad, welfare of the people is bad and Tinubu is bad,” he said.
The SDP candidate said the condition of the roads was particularly troubling, comparing the present situation unfavourably with roads that existed during the old Oyo Empire.
He questioned the number of trailers that had overturned on the road and pointed to the dangers faced by motorists travelling between Ilorin and Oyo.
“How many trailers did you count that somersaulted on the road? How many narrow escapes did you have yourself?” he asked.
Adewole said travellers using the route should be grateful simply for completing their journey safely, given the condition of the road.
“I believe that everybody who is here today will go home and do thanksgiving just for coming from Ilorin to Oyo,” he said.
He further questioned how a government that spends trillions of naira could fail to provide basic infrastructure and security for citizens.
“How can it be so bad that a government that is spending or wasting trillions cannot give security, cannot give roads, cannot give electricity?” he asked.
Adewole also accused the Tinubu administration of being disconnected from the positive developments and needs of Oyo State, claiming that the government is more visible through negative events than through meaningful development.
“Every good thing in Oyo is not aware that Tinubu is around,” he said.
He went on to list what he described as the negative issues associated with the administration, including condolence visits, killings, stealing, controversial agencies, certificates and names.
According to Adewole, these problems must end, and he presented the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to decide whether the Tinubu administration deserves another term.
He said the period from 2023 to 2027 should be remembered as a failure for Tinubu, but warned that Nigerians themselves would bear the blame if they returned him to office in 2027.
“It is left for Nigerians. For the first term of Tinubu, 2023 to 2027, shame on Tinubu. But for 2027, that will be shame on Nigerians,” Adewole said.
The SDP presidential candidate’s comments come as political parties and potential presidential contenders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
His remarks focused heavily on the cost of living, infrastructure, security and the government’s management of the economy, issues expected to remain central to political debate as Nigerians assess the Tinubu administration’s record.
His broader message was clear: he wants Nigerians to reject a continuation of the Tinubu administration in 2027 and use the next election to demand a change in leadership.
