President Bola Tinubu is set to resume his trip to France today, August 23, after an important detour to swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Justice Kekere-Ekun’s appointment marks a historic moment as she becomes only the second female CJN in Nigeria’s history, succeeding Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, who served from July 2012 to November 2014.

The inauguration ceremony took place at 11:38 a.m., with Kekere-Ekun formally taking her place in the council chambers at 11:45 a.m., positioned on the president’s left.

Key figures present at the event included Supreme Court justices, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Julius Ihonbvere, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former CJN Olukayode Ariwoola. Also in attendance were Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris.

A presidential source indicated that Tinubu is expected to return to France “any moment now” to continue his work there.
