Olisa Agbakoba, who once led the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its lack of hopeful communication to Nigerians during these economically challenging times.
In a recent interview, Agbakoba expressed his concern that the presidency is not setting a good example by reducing the high cost of governance and demonstrating empathy towards the citizens’ difficulties.
Agbakoba emphasized that the government should be conveying a message of hope, assuring Nigerians that despite the current hardships, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. However, he believes that the government is failing in this regard, which he considers a significant mistake.
While acknowledging that Nigerians are capable of withstanding tough times, Agbakoba warned that the absence of reassuring communication is exacerbating the situation nationwide. He cautioned about a potential “slow revolt” among citizens who are becoming increasingly frustrated with the escalating cost of living.
The seasoned lawyer urged the Tinubu administration to take proactive measures to address the growing discontent among the populace and to communicate a vision of hope that can inspire citizens during this economically difficult phase.
Agbakoba reiterated his concern about the government’s failure to communicate hope. He called on the presidency to articulate clear plans for economic recovery and assure Nigerians that the situation is likely to improve within the next few months.
