President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outlined a set of conditions that Governor Siminalayi Fubara must fulfill to continue his role as the governor of Rivers State.
NN News Media reports in a letter circulating on social media, the comprehensive list of requirements covers various aspects, including legal matters, legislative proceedings, and administrative decisions within the state.
Tinubu has played a pivotal role in resolving the weeks-long political tension between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the 27 Rivers lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The face-off, rooted in the differences between the governor and his predecessor, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was diffused through a closed-door meeting convened by Tinubu.
Resolutions Agreed:
- Withdrawal of all court cases initiated by Governor Fubara and his team concerning the political crisis in Rivers State.
- Immediate cessation of all impeachment proceedings initiated against the Governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
- Recognition of the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, along with the 27 members who resigned from the PDP.
- Swift reinstatement of remunerations and benefits for all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff, with a commitment to non-interference by the Governor in the Assembly’s funding.
- Freedom for the Rivers State House of Assembly to choose its location for legislative activities without interference from the Executive arm of government.
- Governor Fubara to re-present the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.
- Resubmission of the names of all commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned due to the political crisis for approval by the House of Assembly.
- Rejection of a caretaker committee for local governments in Rivers State, with a declaration of the nullity of the dissolution of the Local Government administration.
