President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), according to an official statement released on Thursday by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.

Majekodunmi succeeds Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, who was appointed as the pioneer Director-General of the Council in June 2024. The President expressed his appreciation to Madueke for her dedication and for laying a strong institutional foundation that will enable the Council to advance its strategic climate objectives.

A seasoned environmental lawyer and expert in climate finance, Majekodunmi brings over 17 years of experience to the role. She has collaborated with both global and national institutions on projects related to renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.

Before her latest appointment, Majekodunmi served as the Financial Adviser to the NCCC. In that capacity, she was instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s climate policy and representing the nation in critical international climate negotiations and engagements.

Her appointment signals the Tinubu administration’s continued commitment to strengthening climate action and environmental sustainability frameworks in Nigeria.
