Bello Matawalle, the former governor of Zamfara State who faced challenges in ending insecurity during his tenure, has vowed to address the country’s security issues as part of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government by 2024.
The commitment was expressed by Matawalle, now serving as the Minister of State for Defence, during an interview with BBC Hausa on Tuesday.
The incumbent government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has affirmed its determination to bring an end to Nigeria’s insecurity by the specified target year.
The Minister acknowledged the prevailing security challenges and assured that the federal government is actively working to find comprehensive solutions.
Matawalle emphasized that the actions taken by the Tinubu administration would play a crucial role in addressing the incessant attacks by gunmen across the country. He expressed optimism that, with the concerted efforts of the government, all security issues would be overcome by 2024.
During the interview, Matawalle underscored the collaboration between state governors and the federal government in tackling security concerns. He called upon Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State to actively engage with security agencies and the federal government to ensure success in the fight against insecurity.
Matawalle urged Governor Lawal to prioritize the security of Zamfara State over political differences and personal issues. He emphasized the need for unity in addressing the state’s security challenges, urging the governor to collaborate with security forces and the federal government for the greater good of the people of Zamfara.
