Yesterday, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, shared an inspiring story. He was deeply moved by the actions of an 11-year-old boy, Tolu, the head boy of Corona School in Gbagada, Lagos.

Tolu, showing initiative beyond his years, invited Obi to be the Special Guest of Honour at his primary six school graduation ceremony.

Obi was both surprised and delighted by Tolu’s initiative. The young boy’s curiosity and eagerness to learn left a lasting impression on him. Tolu revealed that he had been following Obi’s journey during the elections and was inspired by the positive things people said about him.

In a heartwarming moment, Tolu asked Obi, “What can I do to be a good person like you?” Obi advised him to always uphold honesty, respect his parents, teachers, and elders, and to always strive to do what is right. He also encouraged Tolu to study diligently and to resist the urge to follow the crowd when they are wrong.

Obi sees a bright future for Nigeria, led by young leaders like Tolu who will excel in their respective fields and bring about positive change. He believes that with quality education and a strong moral compass, Tolu and other boys like him will overcome their challenges and become beacons of hope for their generation.

Obi expressed his honor in playing a small role in inspiring Tolu and many other children and youths in Nigeria to be forces for good. He concluded his statement by wishing every Nigerian boy a Happy International Day of the Boy Child, expressing his hope for them to thrive and shine in the New Nigeria.
