A large group of bandits launched a devastating attack on Zurak village, located in the Bashar District of Wase local government area in Plateau State, resulting in the tragic loss of over 40 lives, including members of the local vigilante group.
The assault took place around 5 pm on Monday, during a time when villagers were engaged in their daily routines. The residents, however, were unable to promptly report the incident due to inadequate communication infrastructure in the area.
Sahpi’i Sambo, a local youth leader, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust. He reported that the bandits, armed with advanced weaponry, arrived at the village on motorcycles, with two riders per bike, and began firing indiscriminately.
Sambo stated, “The death toll exceeded 40, with many more injured. Villagers have sought refuge in nearby communities. As of yesterday, no security personnel had arrived at the scene. It was a deadly situation.”
As of the time this report was filed, DSP Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the state police command, had not responded to our correspondent’s inquiry.
