Rivers State election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, the federal capital territory—FCT, has dismissed the petition lodged before it by Beatrice Itubo, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party–LP in Rivers State.

The petition is challenging the victory of governor Simnalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party—PDP in the last election.

Recall that Fubara was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission—INEC after he scored 302,614 votes. He defeated Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress—APC who polled 95,274 votes.

However, following the adoption of final written addresses and arguments from all parties, the tribunal, headed by Justice Cletus Emifonye, ruled on Monday, striking out the Labour Party’s petition on grounds of lacking merit and failure to substantiate the allegations raised in the petition.
