The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has issued a pressing call to President Bola Tinubu’s administration to urgently address the escalating food prices and widespread economic challenges gripping the nation.

TUC President, Festus Osifo, conveyed this demand on Friday, underscoring the mounting frustration among Nigerians. Osifo emphasized the populace’s exhaustion with prolonged deliberations, summits, and mere rhetoric from the government, insisting on concrete actions to alleviate the prevailing hardships exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira under the Tinubu administration.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television Politics Today, Osifo lamented the staggering rise in commodity prices, which has significantly burdened ordinary citizens, making survival a daily struggle.

“Food constitutes a significant portion of the average Nigerian’s expenses. The government must intervene,” stressed Osifo, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

“We’ve witnessed numerous promises and discussions, but Nigerians are fatigued with empty rhetoric. Presently, market prices have skyrocketed beyond affordability,” he added.

Despite the ongoing hardships, the government has consistently appealed for patience, assuring citizens that the implemented reforms will yield a brighter future. However, growing unrest is evident, with protests erupting in several cities as Nigerians’ patience wears thin amidst the deepening economic crisis.
