The United States Mission in Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State.

According to the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Okechukwu was kidnapped from his residence on Tuesday, March 4, and his body was found on Wednesday, March 5.

In a statement on Friday, the mission condemned the brutal act and extended their condolences to Okechukwu’s family, congregation, and the entire Catholic community. They also urged Nigerian authorities to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Before his untimely death, Okechukwu was serving at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tachiri, Kaura Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The Diocesan Chancellor, Fr. Jacob Shanet, described Okechukwu as a dedicated servant of God who worked selflessly in the Lord’s vineyard. He added that the reverend’s murder has left the Catholic community heartbroken and devastated.
