Seventeen-year-old Ugo Ugochukwu made history with a stellar performance at the 2024 FIA Formula Regional World Cup and the 71st Macau Grand Prix.

The Nigerian-born, American-flagged racer became the first American to win the coveted Macau GP since Bob Earl’s triumph in 1981, solidifying his status as one of motorsport’s brightest young talents.

Driving for R-ace GP, Ugochukwu dominated the race, leading from start to finish despite fierce challenges from Olivier Goethe of MP Motorsport and Noel León of KCMG IXO by Pinnacle Motorsport. Adverse weather conditions added to the race’s complexity, with heavy rain and damp patches forcing officials to commence the event with a safety car lap to ensure fair play.

“I can’t describe the feeling, but of course, I am super happy,” Ugochukwu reflected after his win. “It was quite a tricky race, and I was pushing the whole way. But I was confident with the pace, and we’ve had a great weekend.”

Often compared to Lewis Hamilton, Ugochukwu showcased remarkable skill and composure throughout the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix. Even with multiple safety car periods due to crashes involving James Wharton, Jett Bowling, Kai Daryanani, and Sota Ogawa, he managed flawless restarts to maintain his lead.

The young driver’s exceptional performance under challenging conditions underscores his immense potential. This victory marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career, further cementing his reputation as a rising star in the world of motorsport.
