Renowned political economist Pat Utomi has joined Labour Party delegates in expressing solidarity with the people of Borno State after the recent devastating floods.

In a statement on his X account, Utomi highlighted the critical importance of human solidarity while calling for proactive measures to address the recurrent flooding, which is worsening due to climate change.

He urged Labour Party leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman to establish a working group dedicated to creating people-centered policies that can anticipate and mitigate future disasters.

“Human solidarity is the greater part of what makes our humanity complete,” Utomi said, emphasizing the need for both empathy and immediate support for flood victims.

He further stressed that the Labour Party should be known for advancing sound policies that prioritize the well-being of citizens, moving beyond reactive responses to proactive strategies aimed at safeguarding communities.

Earlier reports from NN News Media confirmed that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi led a high-profile delegation to Borno State to offer support and assess the flood damage.

The delegation, which included Sen. Nenadi Usman and Vice Presidential Candidate Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, met with Borno Governor Babagana Zulum and visited affected areas, including an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp and local markets devastated by the floods.

During the visit, Obi announced a ₦50 million donation on behalf of the Labour Party to aid in relief efforts, underscoring the party’s commitment to providing ongoing support for those affected by the disaster.
