The Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum has said it is working on getting the final approval from the Sudanese authorities to commence the evacuation of stranded Nigerians in the country.

It also called for calm and asked students and other Nigerians living in Sudan to remain indoors.

This was contained in a statement shared by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital Communication, Bashir Ahmad via his verified Twitter handle on Sunday.

Recall that Nigerian students in the war-torn region called on the federal government to evacuate them.

The development had generated reactions as many faulted the government’s approach to the matter, but the presidency said the situation had given the Nigerian government sleepless nights.

According to Ahmad, Nigerian authorities are working hard to ensure the safety of the students.

He wrote, “The Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum has, again, called for calm and asked students and other Nigerians living in Sudan to remain indoors as they are working on getting the final approval from the Sudanese authorities to commence their evacuation.

Kindly disseminate the information!”
