Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has issued a poignant statement condemning the escalating insecurity across Nigeria.

He described the situation as deeply saddening and distressing, with insecurity continuing to ravage the nation without any sign of relief.

Obi highlighted the added suffering of Nigerians, who are already enduring economic hardship but now face the constant threat of violence, leaving them unable to sleep peacefully. He expressed particular concern over the relentless attacks on critical infrastructure by terror groups, whose disregard for human life has devastating consequences.

Recently, Obi referred to a disturbing report of terrorist attacks in Benue State, which claimed the lives of nearly 30 individuals in separate assaults on communities across two local government areas. He also condemned a terror attack on Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing in Nnewi, Anambra State, where three staff members were abducted.

The Labour Party leader questioned the future of Nigeria in the face of such widespread insecurity, especially when businesses—both local and foreign—are under attack. Obi stressed that Nigeria is already grappling with a crippling economic crisis, and the continued violence against businesses and infrastructure only exacerbates the situation.

In a call for immediate action, Obi insisted that the cycle of violence must be halted before it consumes the entire nation. He extended his condolences to the victims of the Benue attacks and the recent assault on Innoson’s facility, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the kidnapped workers.

Obi’s statement concluded with a powerful message: Nigeria must confront and end insecurity before it brings the nation to its knees.

Again, we must end insecurity in our nation before it ends us
