Every week, dozens of Nigerians are killed under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, as violence continues to plague communities across the country.
At least thirteen people mostly children and the elderly were killed, and more than twenty homes were set ablaze in the latest attacks on Juwan and Manja communities in Plateau State, allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen.
The assault on Juwan, in Tangur District of Bokkos Local Government Area, occurred late Thursday night. Ten people were killed, with others severely injured. According to local officials, the attackers moved from house to house, breaking into homes through ceilings when doors resisted entry. The elderly and young, unable to flee, were most affected.
Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Amalau Samuel, described the attack as “barbaric and inhuman,” adding that the community has been left shattered by the brutality.
On the same day, three people were killed in Manja, Chafem Chiefdom of Mangu Local Government Area, while working on their farmland. Though some residents escaped after raising an alarm, attackers later returned and set more than twenty homes ablaze.
State lawmaker Mathew Kwarpo, who represents Mangu South in the Plateau State House of Assembly, confirmed the double assault. He expressed frustration over the recurring attacks, accusing the perpetrators of attempting to forcibly take over ancestral lands.
“In the second wave, there were no casualties, but dozens are now homeless,” Kwarpo said. “We’re appealing to both the state and federal governments for help. The security forces are doing their best, but they’re being overwhelmed.”
Several communities in Bokkos, Bassa, and Mangu LGAs have faced relentless attacks in recent months, leading to massive displacement and deepening insecurity across Plateau State.
