Former Lagos State APC Chairman, Henry Ajomale, has come to the defense of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu amid accusations of biased appointments.
Critics have alleged that Tinubu has favored his kinsmen, which have been tagged Yorubarization in his cabinet selections, a claim Ajomale refutes.
In an interview with PUNCH, Ajomale argued that Tinubu’s appointments prioritize individuals with a proven track record, asserting the importance of bringing in people who can effectively perform their roles. He dismissed the notion of appointing random individuals and suggested that critics should wait for their turn to become president before advocating for such an approach.
“The man needs to invite those he knows can work with him. Those are tested people he can vouch for,” Ajomale explained. “You don’t expect me to take strangers if I want to achieve something. We are talking about an important project here. I can only invite tested people I know, not the ones you think you know.”
Ajomale emphasized the seriousness of the job at hand, considering Nigeria’s current precarious situation. He urged a focus on competence rather than factors like religion or ethnicity in making appointments.
“We need to solve this problem as early as possible. We don’t have to start looking at religion or ethnicity to do the job. It is not mandatory for me to bring somebody from my village to be a minister. I didn’t vote for you because I want to bring my friend to work in your government,” Ajomale concluded.
