Popular Nigerian cleric Bishop David Abioye has strongly criticized Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu administration who have dismissed claims of a Christian genocide in the country.

The controversy follows recent remarks by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who asserted that Christians in Nigeria are facing systematic persecution. Some Nigerian officials, however, have rejected this claim, insisting that the nation’s security challenges are not religion-related.

Speaking during a recent church service, Abioye labeled those who deny the existence of a Christian genocide in Nigeria as a “wicked set of people.” He emphasized that the mass killings and burials could not be ignored or distorted.

“There is a lot of distortion going on. People claiming there is no genocide of Christians in the nation. Information with facts can never be thwarted. You see people buried in hundreds and you say there is no genocide. What a wicked set of people,” Abioye said.

He further warned that the violence is gradually spreading to the South, particularly the South West and South East, criticizing leaders who, in pursuit of personal interests, deny the persecution. “Selling out their faith, if they have it at all,” he added.
