A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has berated Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, over his call for the removal of Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Recall that Gumi, in a video sermon of over 14 minutes posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday, labelled Wike as “Satan” for receiving the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria in his office and planning to collaborate with Israel over security issues in Abuja.

He also said it was dangerous to entrust the country’s national security to Christians and Southerners, adding that President Bola Tinubu would be stopped from serving for eight years.

But, reacting to Gumi’s comments in a statement on Sunday, Ugochinyere condemned the message of hate from the Islamic cleric, saying that Wike did nothing to warrant such utterances.

The lawmaker stated that the call for Wike’s removal was baseless and coming from a place of hate for Southerners and Christians, and if care is not taken, it might lead to ethnic and religious tension in the country.

Ugochinyere said that the recent utterances and subtle threats from Gumi must not be brushed under the carpet by security agencies, adding that the call for Wike’s removal was an insult.

The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated that Gumi’s attack on Wike will not distract him from the commendable FCT reforms he has started.
