On April 13, 2024, the Yoruba Nation agitation group launched an attack on the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The attackers, dressed in foreign military camouflage attire with berets and armed with dangerous weapons, arrived in buses and motorbikes.
In response to the attack, troops were immediately deployed to the scene, and a confrontation ensued. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, confirmed that the Yoruba Nation adherents engaged in a shootout with the troops.
However, due to the superior firepower of the troops, the attackers were successfully subdued, leading to their retreat in disarray. Nine members of the group were apprehended, and a Semi-Automatic Pump Action rifle along with ammunition was recovered.
Currently, the troops are pursuing the fleeing attackers, and the situation is under control. The public is advised to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies. The safety and security of the citizens remain the top priority, and the troops are committed to upholding peace and order in the region.
