As tension builds towards August 1 hardship protests, former PDP presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has blamed President Bola Tinubu for the hardship and looming protests in the country.
In an open letter to the president titled ‘Once Again, An Appeal to President Bola Tinubu’, Momodu said Tinubu is the architect of the hardship and suffering.
Momodu reminisced about his early recollection of Tinubu as a Senator fighting for democracy during the June 12 annulment. He noted that Tinubu had been in control of Lagos, described as the California of Africa and possibly the sixth richest economy in Africa, for 24 years before becoming President of Nigeria.
However, Momodu expressed sadness that since realizing his ambition, things have not been easy for Nigerians except for the ‘privilegentsia’. He frankly told Tinubu that he caused it all by not realizing that a country is much more complicated than a state.
Momodu disagreed with Tinubu’s stance against allowing Nigerians to demonstrate on the streets, something they enjoyed during military regimes. He assured that potential threats can be contained and urged Tinubu to go back to his original friends in civil liberties for assistance. Momodu advised Tinubu to resist the temptations of full-blown dictatorship and ignore the hawks in his team who have nothing to lose
