Peter Obi, the national leader of the Labour Party (LP), has issued a sharp rebuke to President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of being disconnected from the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Obi’s criticism comes against the backdrop of Nigeria’s mounting economic difficulties, including soaring inflation, high unemployment, and escalating poverty rates.

In a recent interview with NewsCentralTV, Obi laid the blame for Nigeria’s current economic struggles squarely at Tinubu’s feet. He condemned the excessive cost of governance under Tinubu’s administration, describing it as both “criminal and unacceptable.” Obi remarked, “You can’t ask people to fast while you’re feasting,” highlighting the stark contrast between the lavish lifestyle of the president and the economic strain on the populace.

Recent reports have highlighted Tinubu’s opulent expenditures, which include:

  1. Upgrades to the presidential jet, estimated to cost between ₦50 billion and ₦100 billion (approximately $125 million to $250 million USD).
  2. The acquisition of several luxury vehicles, including high-end armored cars for personal use.
