The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that President Bola Tinubu will not secure a second term, asserting that Nigerians will reject his leadership in the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued by its interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC criticized recent comments from the Presidency suggesting Tinubu would not remain in office beyond 2031. The party described such remarks as undemocratic and presumptuous, arguing that re-election is not a given but must be earned through performance.

“The idea that Tinubu is already speaking of 2031 reflects a dangerous sense of entitlement,” the ADC stated. “Re-election is a constitutional process, not a coronation.”

The opposition party accused Tinubu’s administration of deepening national divisions and worsening poverty. It cited rampant insecurity, with bandits controlling large areas of the North and citizens subjected to violence and extortion. The ADC claimed that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has become a nation gripped by fear and trauma.

On the economic front, the party pointed to the collapse of the naira, skyrocketing inflation, and the erosion of the middle class. Businesses are failing, jobs are disappearing, and food prices have surged, leaving Nigerians poorer and more desperate than before.

The ADC also condemned the state of the power sector, describing it as stagnant despite massive spending. Blackouts persist, and the national grid continues to fail, while corruption festers.

Social development indicators, the party said, are in decline. Education is underfunded, healthcare is crumbling, and millions of children remain out of school. The youth face rising unemployment and hopelessness, while government responses are superficial.

The ADC further accused the administration of authoritarianism, citing ignored court orders, harassment of journalists, and suppression of peaceful protests. It claimed that transparency and fiscal discipline have been replaced by secrecy, wasteful spending, and questionable loans.

The party warned that talk of a second term is not only insensitive but dangerous, given the alleged failures of the current administration. It cautioned against any attempt to replicate Tinubu’s political dominance in Lagos on a national scale.

“Nigeria is not Lagos,” the statement emphasized. “In 2027, it won’t be APC versus ADC—it will be APC versus the Nigerian people.”
