The African Democratic Congress has quickly moved past the surprise exit of Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In an interview with ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi called the departures a temporary glitch but said the party has stabilized and is fully focused on its main goals.
Those goals are to stop the steady decline in governance and to strengthen multiparty democracy in Nigeria. Abdullahi made it clear the party has put the exits behind them and is moving forward without wavering.
He admitted the departures created a setback for the wider opposition coalition they are building. In a three or four horse race the incumbent usually gains the advantage. However he stressed it is not a fatal blow to their efforts.
Abdullahi expressed strong hope that all opposition groups can still come together before the 2027 elections and field a single presidential candidate. He said conversations toward this unity remain open because anyone genuinely committed to ending misgovernance and improving the quality of life for Nigerians should be ready to reach across and harmonize their positions.
The ADC supports principles of equity justice and fairness but will take strategic decisions at this time rather than simply being politically correct. The party will carefully evaluate all options and focus on what gives the best chance of success especially where strong contenders have regional strengths.
Overall the ADC believes a united opposition front gives the greatest opportunity to defeat the kind of incumbency power they now face and will continue working hard to build that big coalition.
