The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the movement of sensitive materials from the branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the local government area offices across the country ahead of the presidential and national assembly election on Saturday.

In Lagos State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos, Mr Segun Agbaje, who is overseeing the process in the state said the INEC is ready for Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections.

The INEC REC also said the materials are secure and intact.

The collection of the sensitive materials and distribution to Electoral Officers for onward takeoff to various INEC Local Government Offices took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Marina amid heavy security.

The Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, said the force is not encountering any challenges so far and they envisage the process will go on smoothly.

Security operatives, election observers, and other critical stakeholders witnessed the exercise which is a major exercise leading up to the elections.

In Ekiti State, the sensitive materials are now being sorted for distribution at the CBN premises, Ado the Ekiti, the state capital.

The arrangements of the materials for the election are taking place under the watch of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, party representatives, monitors and observers.

Men of the Nigeria police and other uniform men are also within the premises to ensure maximum security.

Channels Television’s correspondents in Sokoto and Niger states have also reported that the Commission has started distributing sensitive electoral materials in the Northern states.

In Calabar, NN News learnt that the Independent National Electoral Commission has begun the distribution of sensitive materials to the 18 local government areas in Cross River State.

It started with the loading of BVAS machines into trucks at the INEC state headquarters in Calabar on Wednesday.

Other sensitive materials kept at the state branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria were also about to be moved with the BVAS to local government areas as of the time of this report.

The exercise was witnessed by the representatives of political parties and security agency officials.

Before the materials were distributed, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof Gabriel Yomere, echoed the warning by security agencies that “no big man would be allowed to come out on election day with his orderly.”

He said the issue of logistics had been taken care of, and that all was set for hitch-free polls.

A representative of the state Commissioner of Police, ACP Kabiru Ibrahim, said adequate preparations have been made to provide security throughout the election period.
