The Recovery of Public Assets Gubernatorial Transition Subcommittee of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has uncovered how Governor Abdullahi Ganduje allegedly sold the building of Kano State Public Procurement Bureau office to his son, Abba Ganduje.
This chairman of the subcommittee, Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen during a visit to the agency, popularly called Due Process Office.
A statement by Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, spokesman for the Kano governor-elect on Thursday, said the building, according to the finding of the committee, was sold to Mr Ganduje’s son at the cost of N10 million.
According to Mr Baffa-Bichi, the building, valued at N500 million, had allegedly been sold by the governor’s son at N300 million after buying it at less than N10 million, “and is due for demolition on Thursday”.
He said the act is “akin to vandalism’ of every structure of governance and this is not what is expected of a government that was given the opportunity to rule the state for eight years”.
“We are deeply worried, the manner in which the outgoing administration is mortgaging the common franchise of the good people of Kano State leaves much to be desired”.
“This place (Due Process Office) was sold for less than N10 million and we are aware that the boy has sold it for over N300 million.
“You are literally giving him the place free of charge and asking him to go and get a buyer.
“We feel that this is the most unfortunate destruction of public property that anybody could ever imagine.
“What they are doing, he said, is just a drama. The real game is going to start from May 29,” the statement added.
The statement further stated that the Kano State incoming government of Abba Yusuf said it would explore all legal means to recover all the public property allegedly sold by Mr Ganduje to members of his family.
