The Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project (SERAP), on Tuesday, threatened to sue President Bola Tinubu and the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, over an attack on the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.

Ajaero was arrested by police operatives last week during a protest held in Imo State.

The state police command, however, denied arresting Ajaero, noting that he was taken into protective custody to prevent a mob attack.

Uzodinma in reaction to the attack on Ajaero, accused the labour leader of meddling in the political affairs of the state.

SERAP in a post on X wrote, “We’re suing the Tinubu administration and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, over the brutal attack on NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, last week in Imo State, and the failure of the authorities to bring suspected perpetrators to justice.”

Meanwhile, NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have declared a total nationwide strike.

The leadership of the two unions resolved after an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.

The organized labour unions following the announcement have commenced mobilisation of members and allies across the country.
