In a recent twist of events, a leaked draft of a court order authored by Justice Donatus Okorowo from the Federal High Court in Abuja has surfaced, intensifying the already heightened political tension in Rivers State.

The leaked document, believed to be a response to an application filed by lawmakers loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FTC) Minister Nyesom Wike, is scheduled for delivery on Monday, December 18, 2023. Allegedly, the order aims to provide protection to the lawmakers as they embark on an impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, adding a new layer of complexity to the ongoing feud between Wike and Fubara.

The backdrop to this development includes a significant political shift, as 27 lawmakers who were previously aligned with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week. Governor Fubara swiftly responded by declaring the seats of these defectors vacant, escalating the political turmoil.

In a parallel move, the State High Court in Port Harcourt issued a similar order on Tuesday, granting the four-member Rivers House of Assembly, supported by Governor Fubara, the authority to conduct legislative business without interference.

Adding to the intrigue, during the same week, the state government ordered the demolition of the assembly complex, citing concerns about structural defects. These recent events collectively contribute to the escalating political drama in Rivers State, leaving the future political landscape uncertain and tense.
