The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has disclosed intentions to address alleged anti-party activities by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and others during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Damagum emphasized the importance of stabilizing the party and avoiding further crises arising from ongoing litigations.

He asserted that Wike, as a former Governor of Rivers State, is not exempt from party discipline and will face sanctions at the appropriate time.

Damagum clarified that there is no denial from Wike regarding his PDP membership, and he highlighted the forthcoming inauguration of the 2023 review committee.

The committee, once inaugurated, will be tasked with presenting a comprehensive report and recommending suitable sanctions for individuals involved in anti-party activities.

The PDP’s acting National Chairman expressed his commitment to maintaining party stability within legal boundaries, emphasizing that decisive actions will be taken if necessary. He acknowledged that while Wike is a notable figure, others who worked against the party’s interests will also face sanctions in due course.

Damagum stated, “Our stand about Wike is clear. As long as you are a member of the PDP, there is a time for everything. My duty is to stabilize this party without causing unnecessary crises. We will act when necessary, keeping in mind the ongoing litigations within the party. The 2023 review committee will assess everyone who engaged in anti-party activities, and appropriate measures will be taken accordingly.”
