Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has strongly criticized the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for its conspicuous absence and lack of intervention in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Lamido, in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, lambasted the PDP leadership for allowing the All Progressives Congress (APC) to capitalize on internal strife within the party.

Expressing disbelief at the situation, Lamido questioned the effectiveness of the PDP’s National Working Committee, pondering whether the party still existed in any meaningful way. He voiced his concerns about the party’s docility, highlighting the unexpected involvement of President Bola Tinubu from the APC in mediating the PDP’s internal issues.

Lamido went on to describe Tinubu’s intervention as “inconceivable,” suggesting that the PDP’s leadership had become so inactive that an opposing political figure was now playing a prominent role within the party. He accused the PDP of negligence, allowing its political fortunes to be taken over by the APC, a move he deemed as detrimental to the party’s interests.

The former governor critiqued Tinubu’s involvement in the so-called peace meeting, stating that it was not aimed at resolving conflicts in Rivers State but rather at enhancing the APC’s political standing. He challenged the PDP’s National Executive to address the embarrassment caused by Tinubu’s actions and urged them to stand up and protect the party’s interests.

Lamido emphasized the need for the PDP to take decisive action, citing the pressing issues in various parts of the country that required the party’s attention. He criticized Tinubu for supposedly diverting focus from critical national issues and accused the PDP National Working Committee of lacking the courage to challenge the illegality of the peace accord.

Calling for Governor Fabura of Rivers State to reconsider the peace accord he signed, Lamido argued that the document was endorsed in an environment marked by fear, intimidation, and blackmail. He urged the governor to discard the agreement, emphasizing that President Tinubu, who chaired the meeting, was playing both sides of the political spectrum.

In conclusion, Lamido urged the PDP to follow the lead of figures like Chief Edwin Clark and take legal action against the perceived illegality of the peace accord. He called on the PDP’s National Executive to either stand up and protect the party’s integrity or step down to make way for more competent leadership.
