The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s New Year address, branding it a “harvest of deceit, false claims, and empty promises.”

The party’s reaction comes in response to Tinubu’s acknowledgment of public frustration with recent economic decisions, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and Naira devaluation.

Tinubu, in his address, admitted to the challenges faced by Nigerians and defended his administration’s decisions as essential to preventing a fiscal crisis. The removal of the decades-long fuel subsidy was highlighted as a pivotal measure.

However, the PDP, represented by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, criticized Tinubu’s speech as uninspiring and accused it of overlooking crucial national issues. The party pointed to the President’s neglect of matters like insecurity, economic hardship, high inflation, and unemployment.

The PDP further alleged that Tinubu’s administration implemented policies exacerbating the nation’s socio-economic situation. They criticized the President for prioritizing luxury and unnecessary foreign trips over national welfare, claiming a lack of concrete economic policies and mismanagement of resources.

In a strongly-worded statement, the PDP urged President Tinubu to provide a detailed account of national earnings, especially those resulting from the fuel subsidy removal, amidst allegations of misappropriation. The party also called on the National Assembly to enhance its oversight role to effectively hold the executive accountable for its actions.
