In a display of regional solidarity, governors from North Central states converged in Jos to offer condolences to their Plateau State counterpart, Governor Caleb Muftwang, in the aftermath of the brutal massacre that claimed over 200 lives in various villages on Christmas Eve.

Led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, the delegation, which included Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue and Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, delivered both sympathy and tangible support.

The governors collectively donated N100 million to alleviate the suffering of survivors left traumatized by the horrific attacks.

During the visit, Governor Sule emphasized the need to categorize the assailants as terrorists, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Governor Alia of Benue urged the people of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Niger states to unite against the common enemy and develop a robust strategy to safeguard the peace in the North Central region.

Expressing gratitude for the visit, Governor Muftwang lamented the unfortunate circumstances that led to the gathering of his counterparts in Plateau. He fervently hoped for a future where the nation would come together on the Plateau for celebrations rather than mourning.

The devastating attacks, which occurred in 15 villages across Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau, resulted in the loss of over 200 lives and the destruction of 221 houses. Governor Muftwang expressed his commitment to addressing the recurring attacks on farming communities, emphasizing the urgent need for a united front and consistent border surveillance to curb the menace.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, the collaborative efforts of the North Central governors signify a collective determination to overcome adversity and restore peace to the affected communities.
