former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a visit to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, at his residence in Owerri, Imo State.

The meeting saw engaging discussions between Obasanjo and the leadership of Ohanaeze.

Ambassador Okey Emuchay, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, spoke about the importance of the meeting in Umuahia, emphasizing that it revolved around “issues of mutual interest.” While specific details were not disclosed, Emuchay hinted at the potential benefits that would soon accrue to the Ndigbo community as a result of the deliberations.

During the discussions, the President General conveyed to Chief Obasanjo the desire for Nigeria to recognize his sacrifices by erecting monuments in his name.

He recalled Obasanjo’s pivotal role in ending the civil war with the famous slogan “no victor no vanquished,” as well as his contributions to the repayment of significant external debts and the economic recovery during his presidency.

Emuchay highlighted the sense of belonging provided to the Igbo nation during Obasanjo’s tenure, citing the appointment of several Igbo individuals to high-profile positions in his cabinet.

The former President was accompanied by Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, and the meeting also saw the presence of Igbo leaders and Ohanaeze chieftains, including Amb Kema Chikwe, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu, and Chief Tony Ukasanya.

The encounter was described as symbolic and crucial, paving the way for positive developments that are anticipated to enhance the standing and recognition of the Igbo community.
