The Anambra State Police Command successfully thwarted an armed criminal gang’s assault on the convoy of prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure Chris Uba.

The operation, executed on December 28, 2023, resulted in the elimination of three assailants while rescuing a 51-year-old kidnap victim.

During the orchestrated onslaught in Uga, located in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, two members of the Enugu State Command’s police force tragically lost their lives.

In a subsequent interview with reporters, Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye confirmed the success of the operation and reassured the public that an extensive manhunt was underway to apprehend the remaining gang members.

Commissioner Adeoye explained the careful surveillance the police maintained since the Uga attack, emphasizing the avoidance of unintended casualties during the festive season.

The police struck when the gang was isolated from the innocent public around Ogboji in Orumba South Local Government, resulting in the death of three gang members. Additionally, the authorities recovered and defused four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two pump-action guns, 16 live cartridges, and a Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

The successful operation signifies a commitment to public safety, with the police commissioner emphasizing that criminals will find no refuge as law enforcement continues to protect the community.
