In a promising move to enhance security measures in Enugu State’s darker corners, particularly in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, expressed his commitment to fortify the Army’s presence.

He lauded the collaborative efforts of the government and citizens of Enugu State in the relentless battle against insecurity.

Lt. Gen Lagbaja emphasized the synergy between the goals of the Enugu State government and the Army, aiming to expand the frontiers of peace and stability. Grateful for the support extended to the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, the Garrison, 103 Battalion, and other deployments across Enugu State, he acknowledged the pivotal role played by the state in fostering a secure environment.

Governor Peter Mbah commended the Army for its substantial support, essential in augmenting the state’s security efforts. Dr. Mbah articulated the importance of establishing an army barracks in Isi-Uzo, ensuring sustained security and fostering economic growth, with the ambitious target of elevating the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.

During his recent visit to the Government House in Enugu, Lt. Gen Lagbaja, accompanied by the Army high command, reiterated his commitment to assessing operational situations within the jurisdiction of the 82 Division. He outlined his endeavors since assuming the role of Chief of Army Staff, highlighting the importance of addressing challenges faced by troops to enhance operational effectiveness.

Lt. Gen Lagbaja stated, “The desire of the Nigerian Army aligns perfectly with that of the government and the good people of Enugu State; and that is to rid our society of criminal elements and to ensure that peace and stability prevail for law-abiding citizens going about their lawful businesses.”

Assuring that the Army Headquarters will address concerns raised, including deploying troops to Isi-Uzo, he emphasized the overarching goal of eradicating criminal elements and fostering a conducive environment for economic activities in the region. The strategic plan aims to create a stable and secure atmosphere for the prosperity of the South East’s economy.
