Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, declares, “It is very clear that they robbed us of that election.
Abure points to the flaws in Nigeria’s Electoral Act as the culprit behind his party’s loss in the 2023 general elections, singling out key figures like the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Enugu State governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, as the most affected.
During a gathering at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Abure hosts Edeoga and lays blame on entities such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the National Assembly, and the Presidency, accusing them of manipulating the electoral process.
In response, Abure announces the formation of a committee, with Edeoga appointed to work on the reformation of the nation’s Electoral Act.
Firm in their stance, Abure states, “We will not be a spectator,” emphasizing the Labour Party’s proactive role in pursuing electoral reforms.
The chairman expresses a commitment to ensuring that the party does not face a similar fate in future elections, asserting, the major victim of the 2023 general election is the Labour Party, and therefore, we cannot take a back seat in the pursuit of electoral reform and in defense of our votes.
