Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun revealed the peaceful passing of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Okoye Ikemefuna.
The announcement, made through a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed the IGP’s heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the esteemed law enforcement veteran.
The statement, released on Friday, January 12, disclosed that AIG Ikemefuna breathed his last on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Born on June 15, 1955, he joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1984, embarking on a distinguished career marked by dedication and service to the nation.
AIG Ikemefuna’s significant contributions were highlighted, particularly during his tenures as Commissioner of Police in Ogun state from 2010 to 2014 and later as Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 11 in Osogbo in 2015.
The Inspector General of Police praised Ikemefuna’s commitment to duty, acknowledging the indelible mark he left on the law enforcement community.
The law enforcement fraternity, as well as the nation at large, mourns the loss of a respected figure. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, expressed sincere condolences, praying for solace for the grieving family, friends, and colleagues of the late AIG Okoye Ikemefuna.
