In an interview on ChannelsTV’s Politics Today, Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate of the mining company responsible for the Bodija explosion in Ibadan implicated foreign individuals as owners.

The death toll has now reached three, with one additional victim succumbing to injuries.

Governor Makinde assured transparency in the investigation, stating, “We are trying to uncover the identities of the people. We’ve done a few fact-findings on the company involved, and yes, there are indeed some foreign names on the CAC documents of the company involved, but these are still early days. We don’t have anything to cover.”

He emphasized that the incident was unrelated to banditry or insurgency but involved illegal miners storing explosives in a residential area. The governor identified an individual of interest for questioning, emphasizing the commitment to justice.

Governor Makinde expressed the state’s dedication to providing temporary shelter for those affected, with victims whose houses were destroyed relocated to hotels in Bodija and the Agodi areas of the state capital. Additionally, he announced plans to seek presidential approval for miners to store explosives with the military, intending to sign an executive order to that effect in the coming days.
