Residents of Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, are passionately calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the genuine expression of voters’ will during the ongoing Ebonyi South Senatorial by-election.

The plea comes as INEC had earlier pledged to conduct a credible and transparent election in the district.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abakaliki, residents emphasized the importance of all stakeholders adhering to the electoral rules for a fair and just process. Mr. Godwin Nnanna highlighted that a credible election is crucial to restoring citizens’ confidence, trust, and hope in the electoral process.

In a separate interview, Mr. Santus Ikele urged INEC to stand firm against any pressure and reject “flawed results” from any local government area. The residents are determined to ensure that the electoral process remains peaceful and orderly.

Mrs. Judith Eze expressed optimism that the final result would accurately reflect the electorate’s wishes, acknowledging the resilience of voters who braved all odds to exercise their franchise.

Mrs. Patricia Okpaga called on all stakeholders and security agents involved in the by-election to conduct themselves appropriately, emphasizing the need for a smooth and trouble-free process.

NAN reports that the atmosphere in Abakaliki metropolis is calm and peaceful, with major roads and streets free from any disruption
