The police in Kano State have successfully thwarted an alleged plot by politicians to disrupt the rerun election in certain areas of the state.
Numerous thugs, reportedly hired for this purpose, were apprehended by the authorities, with Commissioner Mohammed Gumel revealing the arrest during a press briefing.
The political thugs were found in possession of dangerous weapons and were apprehended around the Kunchi/Tsanyawa area, a constituency where the rerun election was taking place. Commissioner Gumel explained that the police initially encountered a faulty truck on the roadside, accompanied by a large group of individuals. Upon closer inspection, it became evident that they were armed.
Abdulrazaq Muhammad, also known as Mai Salati, from Kano Municipal, disclosed to the police that they were invited by a candidate named Gwarmai in the area. The authorities plan to investigate Gwarmai’s candidacy and the reasons behind inviting the thugs to the location.
Commissioner Gumel expressed suspicion that the thugs might have been planning to lay ambushes in the bush, targeting electoral officers transporting election results. The police are determined to unravel the motives behind this potential disruption and ensure the integrity of the electoral process in Kano State.
