The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the recent re-run election for the Delta House of Assembly in Burutu and Ethiope West Constituencies a resounding success.

Mr. Etekamba Umoren, the new State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, expressed his satisfaction on Saturday in Asaba after closely monitoring the electoral process.

Umoren commended the smooth conduct of the election, stating, “I will describe the election as being very successful because of the polling units that we visited, the voters, party agents, and even the security agents who were there were happy. There was no shortage of voting materials, and the BVAS worked perfectly. The cordial relationship between the voters was evident. So, I must say that the election is successful.”

While acknowledging the success of the election, Umoren also emphasized the need for continuous improvement in future elections.

On her part, Mrs. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, praised the peaceful nature of the election. She remarked, “Everyone is here to perform their civic right. For me, it is important.”

Despite the limited time for campaigns, Ibori-Suenu highlighted the eagerness of the people to elect a representative for the State House of Assembly. She stressed the importance of voter education, particularly regarding the significance of possessing a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and exercising voting rights.

“In subsequent elections, we need to be able to let them know the importance of casting their votes because with one vote, you can lose your representative. Your voice can only be heard once you use the PVC. I actually want them to take this as a message for 2027 that their power is their PVC,” she added.
