Two Ekiti state, esteemed traditional leaders met a tragic end in a horrifying incident that unfolded on Monday, fall victim to a deadly ambush by gunmen believed to be herdsmen.

The distressing attack transpired between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in the Ajoni Local Government Area, as reported by Oodua News.

The unfortunate victims were identified as the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti in the Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area. The rulers were returning from a meeting when the gunmen struck, ambushing them in a shocking act of violence.

In a stroke of luck, the Alara of Ara in Ikole LG narrowly escaped the assailants, avoiding a similar fate as his fellow rulers. The armed attackers reportedly made an attempt to abduct the monarchs during the ruthless assault.

The community is now grappling with the repercussions of these brutal killings, shedding light on the escalating insecurity and violent incidents in the region. Describing the harrowing event, a source quoted by Oodua News revealed, “They were traveling together. The armed herdsmen stopped them and rained bullets on them. They took their personal belongings and dragged their bodies into the bush.”

The tragic incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the area and raises concerns about the safety of traditional leaders who play vital roles in their communities.
