In recognition of their remarkable achievement at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bestowed upon each member of the Super Eagles team the prestigious national honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

Following their commendable performance resulting in a silver medal, the players and officials were graciously hosted at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday afternoon. This gathering, led by the Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh, alongside key figures from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), served as an opportunity for President Tinubu to express his gratitude and admiration for the team’s dedication and sportsmanship.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu announced the allocation of a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a flat to each player and official, underscoring his appreciation for their outstanding representation of the nation in Ivory Coast.

Notably, the occasion also served as a platform to address the cyberbullying targeted at some members of the team, including Alex Iwobi, emphasizing the importance of supporting and uplifting athletes in both their triumphs and challenges.

In his remarks, President Tinubu praised the Super Eagles for their resilience, sportsmanship, and unwavering spirit, acknowledging their significant contribution to uplifting the nation’s morale through their performance.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike facilitated the process by providing forms for the team members to claim their respective gifts of land and apartments, ensuring a smooth transition for the players and officials.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles players are set to return to their respective clubs before the weekend, with preparations underway for their upcoming national team duties in the FIFA international friendly window scheduled for March. Among the anticipated fixtures is a matchup against Argentina in China, with the date yet to be finalized.
