The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Committee, representing the Labour Party, in the last 2023 election has released a statement to dispel any misconceptions about its legal spending.

The announcement, endorsed by Chief Spokesperson Dr. Yunusa Tanko, responds to public inquiries about the campaign’s financial reports.

The committee disclosed that the reported N744,500,000.00 was an aggregate amount encompassing a variety of legal costs, not solely lawyer fees. This figure also accounts for expenses incurred for research, accommodation, both domestic and international travel, and document production.

The committee stressed that these costs were not limited to a single area but extended across the entire legal journey, from pre-election to post-election stages. This includes expenses for pre-election case filings, handling issues related to their candidate, document transmission and photocopying, and even the cost of bringing in overseas experts for post-election legal disputes.

The committee further explained that the total sum also covered the expenses of dispatching lawyers to collect electoral materials from INEC State offices and providing financial aid to party candidates with legal challenges.

The Obi-Datti Campaign Committee reiterated its dedication to transparency and accountability, vowing to persist in its efforts to instill integrity in the political arena. The committee expressed its gratitude to all its supporters, especially their legal team at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, whose tireless efforts and sacrifices have been invaluable.

Despite facing numerous challenges, the committee maintains a positive outlook for the future, assuring Nigerians, particularly the youth, of their steadfast commitment to the vision of a New Nigeria.
