In response to a landmark Supreme Court decision ruling in his favor, former U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media, declaring, “BIG WIN FOR AMERICA!!!”

The verdict settles contentious debates surrounding allegations of violating the “insurrectionist clause” of the 14th Amendment, marking a significant triumph for the GOP frontrunner.

This ruling delivers a resounding victory for Trump, dispelling legal challenges punctuating his campaign against President Joe Biden. While not affecting ongoing criminal cases, including federal election subversion, it establishes a precedent on candidate eligibility.

The unanimous decision firmly establishes that Trump cannot be unilaterally removed from the ballot. However, there was division among justices regarding the ruling’s breadth. A 5-4 majority affirmed states lack authority to exclude federal candidates from any ballot, emphasizing the need for congressional action.

Chief Justice John Roberts, alongside Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, emphasized constitutional limitations on states’ powers in enforcing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment concerning federal offices, especially the presidency.
