A security expert, Bulama Bukarti, has advised President Bola Tinubu to deploy service chiefs and generals from military barracks to Kaduna State.
This move comes in response to the abduction of over 287 schoolchildren by bandits in Kuriga village, located in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Bukarti emphasized the need for decisive action against these attacks. He proposed that top military officers should be mandated by the President to engage the insurgents directly.
Acknowledging the strain on the Nigerian military, Bukarti highlighted the presence of thousands of generals and military personnel in the barracks. His recommendation to President Tinubu involves deploying each and every general to the field, ensuring that no general remains stationed in any barracks. Additionally, he urged that no service chief be deployed in Abuja. Instead, they should all focus on the mission to rescue the abducted boys and girls, with a clear deadline set for their operation.
Bukarti also emphasized the importance of international support. He called on the Nigerian government to assertively communicate to its Western allies that their refusal to supply necessary weapons would classify them as enemies of Nigeria. He criticized any flimsy excuses that hinder the country’s ability to combat insurgency effectively.
Furthermore, the security expert highlighted the need to address corruption within security and law enforcement expenditure. According to him, corruption inhibits the motivation of soldiers on the battlefield and compromises their ability to respond effectively.
In conclusion, Bukarti expressed confidence in Nigeria’s capacity and resources to bring back the kidnapped schoolchildren. He underscored the urgency of deploying ground troops to achieve this critical objective.
