A recent incident in Bomadi Local Government of Delta State has sparked outrage as Nigerian soldiers reportedly set fire to villagers’ homes following the killings of their comrades.

A viral video circulating on social media captured the alarming scene of houses engulfed in flames, However, NN News Media has not yet confirmed the authenticity of the video.

According to Tukur Gusau, the spokesperson for the Defence Headquarters, had said that troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion were deployed to restore peace in the Okuoma community. However, their mission was met with violence on Thursday.

Gusau revealed that the soldiers were responding to a distress call arising from a communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities. Tragically, the reinforcement team led by the commanding officer fell into an ambush, resulting in the loss of the officer, two majors, one captain, and twelve soldiers.

The escalating tensions have led to severe consequences, with villagers bearing the brunt of the military’s retaliation. The destruction of homes adds to the already tragic loss of life in the region, highlighting the urgent need for effective conflict resolution strategies to prevent further bloodshed.
